Welcome to the second Sales Rev! of 2011. The second one yes, is this slack? Well partly but let me explain. Apart from being super busy and focused on some large clients globally which is all great, we are simply communicating more through the power of social media. Social media allows us to stay in touch more often from more places as well as interact rather than simply broadcast. More information on this follows below. Positive Psychology at Work The Positive Psychology movement which focuses on prevention rather than treatment and how we can all have healthier, more fulfilling lives is gaining much momentum. For those who would like to know more or are just plain skeptical, I would recommend the book "Flourish" by Dr. Martin Seligman who is known as the father of modern day Positive Psychology. Get ready for solid research and case studies on why highly regarded organisations such as Geelong Grammar School and the US Army have built Positive Psychology deeply into their organisations. Facebook and Linkedin are continuing to grow in popularity and research is now supporting the usefulness of these tools in generating appointments and business in the business-to-business space. If you are in business then you need to be in these two sites at least. A website is simply not enough anymore. Musician Stephen Cummings asked this very question in the 70’s and 80’s and a very good question it was. Nicholas Boothman in a recent post says “Want to boost your happiness and energy levels? Switch on the radio. A recent UK study called “Media and the Mood of the Nation” polled more than a thousand people by smartphone and asked them to record what media they were consuming, and rate their mood and energy levels while doing so.The study found that listening to the radio can double your happiness and triple your energy levels. When compared to TV and the internet radio gives up to twice the happiness and four times the perceived energy. No big surprise. Radio can keep you company wherever you go while TV and Internet pretty well limit your ability to move. Be it the radio or your IPOD/IPhone music, audiobooks and podcasts are fantastic ways to change your state. One caveat – be aware of negative talk back shows!
